If you don’t risk anything, you risk everything

In reading over the questions that some of you sent me to answer on my radio show, one theme seemed to come to the top (over and over), and it mirrors a quote that I have been thinking about sharing on the show; it seems the stars aligned with the questions that were sent in, and I came upon this idea, In life, if you don’t risk anything, you risk everything. Some people seem to be so unwilling to risk anything, which makes me think that they are missing out on some real opportunities in life. And you know I’m […]

Stop turning your troubles into your excuses

Well, believe it or not, in a few weeks, it will almost be time for you to consider writing down those crazy New Year’s resolutions. And while I am not entirely opposed to New Year’s resolutions, I don’t take them seriously anymore because I really don’t know anyone who sticks with them, so I find the whole exercise to be a great waste of valuable time…and, frankly, probably the number one reason I am a skeptic and a doubter is because, in the midst of all that self-examination and belly button gazing, it’s always the same old story of people […]

How to be lucky

I have always loved the quote, “The harder I work, the luckier I get.” It has been attributed to just about everyone, but the one who is consistently listed is Samuel Goldwyn of TV and movie producer fame. Interesting when you think that he might have said that line considering that he was–in a sense–the star-maker in Hollywood, but even he understood the long view of success or luck (as you’d like to believe). Just think back on your favorite movie star and then research how many times they had to do cheese ball commercials or TV sitcoms or print […]

You can dwell on it for the rest of your life.

One of the great joys of doing this radio show is all the nice people who call or email me and tell me how a certain show was meaningful to them, from how much they liked a certain guest to some asking questions about who to turn to for help. Since I am not a licensed counselor or an HR person, I like to suggest some good people I know who may be able to help those who reach out to me seeking answers. I cannot help everyone, but I certainly will try to send them to those who might […]

Don’t Complain About Things You Are Not Willing to Change

I have just about reached my limit with people who complain about things they are not willing to change. You hear it all the time from someone in your group. They are the ones who whisper loudly that someone else didn’t do their job, or someone else didn’t tell them some tiny bit of useless information, or someone else said something to someone. And you know the rest of the excuses of the one person who blames their lack of accomplishments on everyone else but themselves. Today, I have a lot to say to those people. What are we supposed […]

Business, Politics and Pageants Have a Lot in Common!

For many years, I was a rock star pageant interview coach…I know, I know, you’re probably surprised to know that at one time, I was one of the Southeast’s top pageant interview coaches for Miss America, Miss USA, Little Miss, the Rodeo Queens, the Cow Queens, and Watermelon Queens and the list goes on… at one time I had more winners on the stage than any coach in the Carolina’s and probably the Southeast. But what’s interesting – as I learned early on… it’s not me, but by coaching my clients to dig deep within themselves and learn to speak […]

Aspire to Inspire before you Expire…

I was sitting with friends, and we were chatting about our morning rituals – what is the first thing you do in the morning when you get out of bed… Some folks head straight for the coffee pot or put on their running shoes and go for a quick run some stay in bed and read emails or hit the snooze button. I head straight to the shower so I can get dressed to be ready for the day. Being self-employed for more years than I can remember, I learned early on to get up and get going and get […]

Patience, Perseverance and Practice

The other day, I saw a man who had the telling scar of a knee replacement, and what made it unusual was that I noticed his knee was stiff and not very workable, so he had learned to swing it in a walking motion instead of walking with a normal gait. When I asked about his surgery, he admitted that he had not done all the exercises that were required right after the surgery, and the knee healed in a stiff position. I am sure that he could stretch the muscles and sinew to make his walking easier and more […]

Don’t Stop Dreaming Just Because You Had a Nightmare

Don’t Stop Dreaming Just Because You Had a Nightmare! There is nothing so sad in life as someone who has given up on their dreams because of a nightmare someone put them through at some point in their life, and the damage seems to have doused their future for the rest of their life. Due to the lingering pain or agony of memories or the visual reminder of the scars that people carry, many good people choose to just drift along for the rest of their lives. They just plod along, remembering, retelling, and reliving their past instead of putting […]
