It’s impossible said pride. It’s risky said experience. It’s pointless said reason. Give it a try whispered the heart.

Give it a try whispered the heart. I love the heart – the one muscle that you must use to keep strong when everything seems to be falling apart. At the center of your body is the heart that beats and keeps the whole body in motion.

And call me crazy, but I believe your body hears everything you say about it. That’s why it is so important to learn to love yourself and be comfortable with who you area and how your are – your best self. It’s not that you can’t improve for health or well-being, but keeping your heart healthy and strong will hold you in good times and bad, success and failure, happiness and tears.

We’re always being told to guard your heart or it will break and to that I say of course in your lifetime you will have heartbreak but it doesn’t mean it’s broken, it may just be still for a while until it heals or has a reason to beat again with joy.

And by the way, keeping your heart closed off from others might cause some of the most damaging tears to your heart if you’re not careful. Sure, guard your heart from those who don’t value it but don’t lock it away or it might atrophy or worse stop. Stop loving, stop giving, heaven forbid stop living your best life ever or what you are called to do in this lifetime. If you’ll keep your heart open it might bring you unspeakable joy – sometimes even through tears.

I’m not sure who came up with this quote but it is a keeper in my book. It is so what our world and environment says, I hear it all the time: “It’s impossible Deb,” “It’s risky Deb,” “It’s pointless Deb” to which my response is simply – well lets at least try.

Dear reader, what are you up against these days? What issue has distracted you from your goal? What problem seems so large that you’ve come to a stop or simply a fork in the road and don’t know what to do or which road to take?

Do you feel defeated because you listened to the mindless chatter of others who say it can’t be done or are you listening to voice in your head that said it’s impossible or risky or pointless?

Remember Being challenged in life is inevitable, being defeated is optional – Roger Crawford

I talk often about turning off the voices in your head that say discouraging things to you and replace those negative words with words of affirmation or by the use of auto suggestion…meaning that you have a go to phrase that can re-direct you back to your path – could be a phrase, a song, a verse or a word or promise that you hold on to in hard times or whatever you need to do to put yourself mentally, emotionally, physically, or spiritually back on track.

What I find interesting is sometimes it’s not your head that says these things but those who you respect or hold in high esteem that might off handedly say something that causes you to doubt your direction or goals…

We all know that friends and family many times do not encourage you like you wish they would…and frankly, that is a hard and discouraging place to be when the ones you respect or admire or even love don’t give you the affirmations that you can do it against all odds…so friend, hear me – don’t listen to others – learn to listen to your heart when it whispers, give it a try… that’s why you have a heart…

Your heart will not lead you astray… the desires of your heart are your true being, your true self, your core desire… so be careful that your path forward that is right and true and honest and fair so years later you’ll be proud to say you walked the line – came through the fire, you flew on wings of eagles and came joyfully to the end.

So back to my question – what do you want to do…where do you want to go…how do you want to be remembered. Make movement towards those ideas big and small as soon as you can so you can start on your plan for personal success.

Don’t listen to the naysayers who will harp that it’s impossible and your pride will be hurt – remember for most of us its pride that gets us into more trouble than it’s worth. When we’re so prideful that we don’t make movement for fear or ridicule or failure we’ve come to a stop…and if you’re not going forward you’re not making progress.

Mark Twain said – Temper is what gets most of us into trouble. Pride is what keeps us there.

Be careful when others remind you of your past failures – they will say, it’s risky – why should you try again – to which you reply that experience is born out of failure – and just because you failed once 1. Doesn’t make you failure 2. Only means you might need to find a new way 3. Not trying is really the only thing that adds up to failing.

Remember – Don’t fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things. The saddest summary of life contains three descriptions: could have, might have, and should have.

My favorite quote on trying is from Margaret Chase Smith – 67 when she announced for president of the United States- she said, When people keep telling you that you can’t do a thing, you kind of like to try it.

Now I don’t know about you but probably the worst thing someone could say to me is that my work is pointless. Believe it or not some of my reasonable friends ask me why I do a radio show – they say Deb its pointless because it doesn’t really build your business, You don’t sell that many more books or corporate speaking engagements and you don’t have the opportunity to meet many of your listeners and since my friends are business people they question my return on investment… to them spending time writing and producing a show, finding guests and then crafting a weekly newsletter from this work – on the outside seems pointless… to them this is not a reasonable use of my time…BUT it is to me…I started with this station teaching some public speaking skills but soon realized that many people we’re writing me asking for more life living skills…and since I care about my friends and community I want to do this work… and frankly it makes me happy…and I although I can’t put a number on my ROI I am happy enough with the nice emails and comments that I receive for doing this…so as I say to them – I will – Because I can…and I don’t worry about the impossible the risky or the reason… I listen to my heart – and I always have and hope I always will…no need to whisper to me – my heart speaks out loud and I trust yours does also…

It’s impossible said pride. It’s risky said experience. It’s pointless said reason. Give it a try whispered the heart.
